What to Text Back When You Miss a Customer Call
Copy-and-edit missed-call text templates for contractors, plus the rules that make them useful instead of pushy.
Text back within a minute, identify your business, ask what they need, and tell them when you will respond. Keep it human: "Hi, this is [Name] with [Company]. Sorry I missed your call. What can I help with today?"
Missed-call texting works because it catches the customer while they are still in the moment. The best message is short, useful, and specific. The worst message sounds like a campaign.
The safest default template
Hi, this is [Name] with [Company]. Sorry I missed your call. What can I help with today?
Use this when you want the fewest moving parts. It identifies you, explains why you are texting, and invites a reply.
After-hours template
Hi, this is [Name] with [Company]. We are closed for the night, but I saw your call. Text me what is going on and I will follow up first thing in the morning. If this is urgent, say "emergency."
This works because it sets expectations instead of pretending you are available 24/7 when you are not.
Estimate request template
Thanks for calling [Company]. I can help with an estimate. What service do you need, what city are you in, and how soon do you want it looked at?
This gives you the minimum information needed to qualify the lead before calling back.
Compliance note
Transactional replies to a missed call are different from mass marketing campaigns, but SMS rules still matter. Keep messages relevant to the call, include business identity, respect opt-outs, and do not add people to promotional sequences without proper consent.
