Review Request Templates for Contractors
Copy-and-edit review request templates for contractors, plus a policy-safe workflow that avoids incentives, review gating, and selective asking.
The best review request template is short, neutral, and sent to every real customer after the work is done. Ask for honest feedback, include the Google review link, and never offer incentives or ask only happy customers.
The policy-safe review rule
Ask every real customer the same way. Do not filter first with "Were you happy?" and only send the link to positive customers. Do not offer a discount, gift card, free service, or future credit for a review.
The goal is a steady flow of honest reviews that helps future customers make a decision.
Template 1: Simple SMS after job completion
Hi [First Name], thanks for choosing [Company] today. If the work met your expectations, would you leave us an honest Google review? It helps local homeowners know who to call. [Review Link]
Use this after a repair, maintenance visit, or small project.
Template 2: Estimate follow-up after a won job
Hi [First Name], we appreciate you trusting [Company] with your [service] project. If you have a minute, your honest feedback on Google would help other local homeowners compare contractors: [Review Link]
Use this after larger jobs where trust and proof matter.
Template 3: Email request with context
Subject: Thanks for choosing [Company]
Hi [First Name],
Thanks again for having us out for [service]. Reviews help other local homeowners understand what it is like to work with our team. If you are willing, you can leave honest feedback here:
[Review Link]
Thank you,
[Name]
Use this for older customers, high-ticket jobs, or customers who prefer email over text.
Template 4: QR code handoff
Thank you for the opportunity to help. If everything looks good after the walkthrough, this QR code opens our Google review page. Honest feedback helps our local business.
Use this on printed leave-behinds, invoices, or final walkthrough cards.
Template 5: Second reminder
Hi [First Name], quick reminder from [Company]. If you are comfortable sharing feedback about your recent [service], here is our Google review link: [Review Link]. Thank you again for working with us.
Send one reminder only. More than that starts to feel like pressure.
What not to say
Avoid requests like these:
1. "Leave us a 5-star review."
2. "Show us your review for 10% off."
3. "Please mention our technician by name."
4. "Only review us if you had a great experience."
5. "Change your review and we will give you a refund."
Those create policy, trust, and brand risk.
Review workflow for contractors
Where to put the review link
Google says businesses can share a link or QR code to make it easier for customers to leave reviews. Good places include:
1. Thank-you text.
2. Thank-you email.
3. Invoice footer.
4. Printed leave-behind.
5. Follow-up workflow after job completion.
6. Website review page.
The link should not be used to pressure customers or filter out negative feedback.
